Companies in the Agglomération de Longueuil have no shortage of new ideas and innovative projects. Due to the presence of numerous research centres in the Agglomération, companies in the area have access to highly specialized resources to help their projects advance. Here are some examples.

Research centres

National Research Council of Canada

  • The premier federal organization for research and development
  • More than 20 national institutes and programs
  • Main industrial sectors: life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, technological and industrial support, and integrated management services
  • 300 researchers and employees
  • 30 science and technology laboratories
  • Activity sectors: metallurgy, polymer, aerospace, automotive, biomedical

Aerospace Technology Centre (Centre technologique en aérospatiale – CTA)

  • The only Canadian applied aerospace research centre affiliated to an educational institution
  • Leading-edge facilities of 3,000 m2, including state-of-the-art laboratories: test benches, high-perfomance machining, composite materials and avionics
  • The only place in the world where the three main techniques for non-destructive testing of composite materials – thermography, shearography, and ultrasonic testing – are offered under one roof
  • The CTA has the largest coordinate measuring machine (CMM) of any research centre in Québec
  • Some of the equipment available at the CTA is very rare in North America, such as a REVO head adapted for the CMM

Natural Gas Technolgies Centre (NGTC)

  • Resources available for energy efficiency projects

College-based centres for technological transfer (Centres collégiaux de transfert de technologie des cégeps du Québec)

  • 41 research centres regrouping 600 experts
  • Technical support and applied research in a number of areas of expertise provided to SMEs

University research centres

  • In addition to building close links with the research centres, we actively seek to facilitate cooperation between university researchers and local companies so that the firms gain access to the latest technologies developed by researchers. For example, we have created a partnership with the Université de Sherbrooke.
